Karen Hersh
(aka Piper) Karen began studying various forms of dance just over 10 years ago. She began her training with Deeply Rooted in  Chicago, IL.  Here she studied and perfomed Horton and Graham style of modern dance along with Dunham and ballet for 5 years.  In 2000, she began to study American Tribal / Tribal Fusion style belly  dance.  Karen is also the director of the tribal dance troupe, the Gypsy Queens, who perfom monthly at Khyber Pass in Oak Park, as well as other street fest, or private functions.  Karen was also part of the first year of PURE.  Pure is Public Urban Ritual Experiment, which is a project created by Kaeshi from Bellyqueen in NYC and Darshan from Gypsy Caravan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 In 2005, Karen was part of the Tribal Ford weekend workshop in England where she taught basic ATS style as well as that of the Gypsy Queens style of ATS.  In 2007, Karen has become level 1 certified with Kajira of Black Sheep Belly dance, as well as level 1 with Suhaila Salimpour and is currently teaching the ATS/Fusion technique at Pineapple studio and at the Dole Center of Oak Park. Private lessons also available.


Stephanie Frye
is originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin, and now resides in Oak Park with her husband and three black cats.  While brief exposure to ballet as a child convinced her she was not a dancer, that all changed five years ago when she took her first bellydance class.  In addition to serious study of two bellydance styles, Stephanie has dabbled in ballroom, Bollywood, bhangra, English country, flamenco, go-go, gothic fusion, gypsy, and Hawaiian dance among others.


Rachel Samuels
Known to break out in irrational fits of dancing at odd, as well as acceptable times.  Has a great personality, fun, friendly and very easy going. Studied Middle Eastern, Modern, Ballet, West African, Swing and other classic Americana, Latin dances, sometimes seriously and other times casually.  As of early 2008, craving study in Flamenco and Classical Indian dances. Former librarian, and soon to be a licensed, clinical massage therapist.
 

Rachel is available for private classes and workshops in wirewrapping and wirework, as well as basic beadstringing, $25 per hour per person at her home, and $30 to $40 per person at the bead store, "Bead In Hand" in Oak Park.
